Skirt

Worn at festivals by young girls, and may have been worn inside out for everyday use. The tradition of regionally distinctive dress is still a feature of some of the remote villages of highland Peru. The costumes are a mixture of Spanish influence with surviving indigenous aspects and materials.

Skirt, girl's, made of woven black wool fabric with red tape at the pleated waist. The red fabric extends at the ends as ties. The bottom edge is finished with the same tape. The centre and bottom of the skirt are each decorated with a horizontal band of embroidered floral and zigzag design in red, blue, yellow, green and white. Between these two coloured bands is a thinner band of white embroidery.
