History of use

Traditionally, baskets were used for a variety of domestic purposes, but starting in the mid-19th century, many basketry goods were made as sale items to provide a source of cash income.

Physical description

Round, coiled basket with a foot, a handle (34.5 cm long), and a twined loop work rim. Sides and bottom are split stitches over slat foundation. Handle has bundle foundation. Foot, handle, and row below the loop work rim are beaded in red-brown. Imbricated with geometric designs of three horizontal zig zag rows with black in the middle and red-brown above and below.
