Lunch Basket

Traditionally, baskets were used for a variety of domestic purposes, but starting in the mid-19th century, many basketry goods were made as sale items to provide a source of cash income.

The design featured on this basket is similar to one owned by the mother of Teust'sa7 according to basket makers from Mount Currie.

Rectangular, coiled basket (a) with fitted lid (b), foot, and two handles at opposite ends (parts c-d, currently broken). Bundle and slat foundation and split stitching. Geometric design imbricated in dark red-brown and light red-brown on body. Light red-brown beading on lid, foot and on handles.
