Biography

Eva Nahanee was born at the Skwah Reserve, and she and her sister were both raised there by their grandmother, until she died--when Eva was 11 years old. The Stewart family then took over raising Eva and her sister. When Eva left in the 1940s, she moved to North Vancouver and married Lorne W. Nahanee. Together they raised nine children. Being raised by her grandmother, Eva learned many traditional values, including weaving baskets with cedar roots and bark. Eva supported her family from the sale of baskets, and was featured in a 1973 article in the Vancouver Province newspaper titled "Ancient Tradition Dying Out, Cedar Basket Weaving."
