African Art Center (1959 - )

Originally established in Durban as a programme of the South African Institute of Race Relations in 1959, the African Art Centre has, since 1984, operated as a non-profit organization. Its aim has been to provide creative and business skills for emerging African artists, many of whom are women who are the sole providers for their families. The Centre serves as a marketplace for the wider community of KwaZulu-Natal province.
