Hamada, Shoji (1894 - 1978)

Hamada Shōji (濱田庄司) was born in Tokyo 1894 and studied ceramics at Tokyo Institute of Technology under Kawai Kanijirō. Soon after, he met Bernard Leach. He travelled to England in 1920 and spent three years in St Ives with Leach. He then returned to Japan and eventually established his workshop in Mashiko.
