Brooks, Ross A. (1882 - 1946)

Biography

Ross Aynsley Brooks was a Vancouver resident who owned a curio shop that he and his wife operated for a number of years, on Robson St. After he died, in 1946, his collection of stone carvings - 'Brooks heads' were offered for sale in the shop by his widow, Mabel. Brooks said he collected stone carvings over a number of years from a mound near the Fraser River, however the mound site was never disclosed by him, or discovered by other archaeologists, before his death. There has been an ongoing controversy among archaeologists for decades over whether or not the 'Brooks head' carvings were fakes created by Brooks.
