Biography

Christina Cox was born c. 1933 and learned basketry from her mother Sophie Jules, the wife of a hereditary chief. Learning basketry at the age of 8, Christina had an interest in the form; however, she finds it disappointing that many women in the younger generation do not have an interest in learning basketry. A hard worker, Christina usually works six days a week, full days. Her mother most likely learned from her grandmother and made many baskets to sell. Christina's work has been purchased in Germany, Japan, Arizona, and she has worked on displays in the Courtenay Museum.
