Biography

Li Jiun-Yang grew up in a family of billboard painters. At a young age, he acquired skills in billboard painting, temple art, puppet theatre design and puppet carving. His work draws on a wide range of media, including painting, wood carving, wire sculpture, installation, performance, grafitti, puppet theatre production, and experimental theatre. He is known for apprearing in TV commercials and popular theatre programs, and for his single-handed construction of an entire temple. He pursued his own unique path in the arts at a time when American culture was gaining influence over Taiwanese art. Rather than look abroad, he drew from inspiration from the local handmade arts to express the intangible ideals of Taiwan's folk culture.
