Molnar, Dennis (1920 - Jan 2017)

Biography

Molnar was born in Budapest, the only child of Alexander and Maria Molnar. He is descended from a family with a distinguished record of service in the Austro-Hungarian empire. He immigrated to Vancouver in 1947 when he started working at Alaska Pine and Cellulose, owned by Walter and Leon Koerner; in 1957 he branched out in business for himself. Molnar collected antiquities in the 1960s, while travelling in Egypt, the Near East, the classical lands of the Greeks, Romans and Etruscans and pre-Columbian sites in the new world. In 2003 he donated his collection of antiquities to UBC (the collection was later transferred to MOA).
