Biography

Gordon Mcleamon Wilson was born in Vancouver in 1921. He married Evelyn Geraldine Wilson in 1941. He served in the RCAF in World War II. After the war he attended the University of B.C. Wilson and his family then moved to London. He was awarded the distinguished Lord Beaverbrook Scholarship for doctoral studies at the London School of Economics. His studies took him to Kenya for fieldwork, where he spent considerable time working in remote areas learning people's languages and customs. He wrote a comprehensive book on Luo customary law, written in the Luo language. He also published numerous papers on the Nilotic peoples of East Africa. After 20 years in Africa the family returned to B.C.
