Narrative

Letter dated July 12, 1957 from J. Adam, O.M.I. to Alfred V. Parminter states that this carving was sent to Mr. Parminter at the request of a Mr. Verhulst. Parminter was superintendent of Indian Education for BC and Yukon.

Physical description

Miniature wooden carvings, illustrating a winter camp scene attached to a mirrored base (part a). Carvings on base include an igloo painted white, with a removable top (part b). Interior features a drying rack (part f), two red storage cases (part g-h), a platform covered with skin(?), and a snow knife (panak). Tools and containers piled around entrance to igloo. Red dog sled propped up against side of igloo. Five figures gathered around table, next to igloo entrance; table has mugs, a bowl, and copper(?) ulu. Three seated figures, on storage boxes, are holding mugs. Two standing figures are holding tools, including a tusk(?) spear. Next to them, there is a light brown storage case with two buckets on it (part d), and a small platform with a lamp (part e). Two dog dark brown sleds close to edge of base, behind figures; have spears and axes attached to them.
