Miniature mortar and pestle made by men for sale to tourists. Full size mortars are used to crush grains, herbs, and vegetables. They come in a variety of sizes depending on use. Pounding and grinding with mortars and pestles is done by women.

Physical description

Miniature mortar and pestle. The mortar (part a) is cylindrical, and roughly carved in three sections from a single piece of wood. Base is slightly rounded. Top rim is flat with rough edges. Pestle (part b) is carved from a single piece of wood, is long with two ends, and has a central cylinder. Centre is wide then narrows to thicker knob-like ends.
