A copy of the QurÔÇÖan, the central religious text of Islam.
Physical description
Illuminated QurÔÇÖan with naksh script written in black ink. Covers and spine made of brown-red leather, with identical floral, geometric and curvilinear motifs stamped both covers. Spine is undecorated. Edges of covers trimmed with two lines, circles in the corners. Raised, inner border, covered in motifs, surround a long oval. Circles in corners of raised portion. Ovals are filled with floral designs and bordered with curvilinear lines. Two bands, made of three plain lines and circles, extend from the top and bottom points of the ovals. They meet with the inner, raised borders. Flap closure attached to back cover, with matching designs along the surface. Spine of flap has stamped circles and lines. Flap and covers lined with white paper. Each page of the QurÔÇÖan has lines of script, with gold leaf and red paint highlights throughout, bordered by simple red and dark brown lines. The first and last page are highly decorated. Motifs on first page done in gold and blue, with dark purple, dark green, yellow and white highlights throughout. Designs include curvilinear lines, geometric forms, star-like shapes and flowers. Motifs on last page are done in gold, dark purple and blue. Designs are circular and curvilinear, text is written in red. Some pages of the QurÔÇÖan have characters written in red and black along the edges. Pages are numbered in pencil, in the bottom corners.
